SAFRA renovates 74 tram sets for Bordeaux Métropole

In order to have a homogeneous fleet of train sets offering the same quality of hospitality to passengers, Bordeaux Métropole has entrusted SAFRA with the development of 74 tram sets.

Bordeaux Métropole has developed its current tramway network in three different phases. All of them Alstom and Citadis, the first 38 tram sets were delivered and put into service in 2003, the next 36 between 2007 and 2009, and finally the last 26 between 2014 and 2016. The evolution of the interior layout between these different phases has enabled the latest train sets to offer users a better comfort of reception, with 10% more surface area per passenger, as well as a greater fluidity of travel inside, but also between the train and the station platform.

Two prototype 302 and 402 trainsets were built in April by the SAFRA Renovation teams. Mr. Duprat, Vice-President of Bordeaux Métropole, validated their design and by following, the STRMTG (Technical Service of Mechanical Lifts and Guided Transport) validated all the work to be carried out. The next 72 trains will be processed by the end of 2020.

To carry out this project, SAFRA worked closely with the teams at Bordeaux Métropole, Keolis and the SOCOTEC group. With this new market, the Albigense SME has distinguished itself by its know-how in modifying the interior layout of urban transport equipment.
